Sydney Metro City & Southwest Project

On 22 June, 2017, The Consortium formed by John Holland, CPB Contractors and Ghella has been awarded the contract to deliver the Sydney Metro City & SouthWest Project-Tunnel and Station Excavation Works by the Transport for NSW. John Holland accounts for 45% share of this A$2.81 billion projects.

Sydney Metro City & SouthWest Project, the extension of the Sydney Metro Northwest, is Australia’s biggest public transport project.This TSE work, as core part of the Sydney Metro City & SouthWest Project, will deliver Sydney’s new harbour rail crossing. Details of the TSE contract includes the design and construction of twin 15.5km tunnels and civil works for six new metro stations, such as Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street and Waterloo. The tunnels will be excavated by five tunnel boring machines (TBMs) between Chatswood and Sydenham, including a specialised TBM to build the tunnels beneath Sydney Harbour.

This iconic project will build the first ever rail tunnels under Sydney Harbour, which will revolutionise public transport in Sydney. John Holland has recently delivered the Sydney Metro Northwest Tunnels and Station Civil Works contract and is currently working on the Operations, Trains and Systems contract. And will continue to bring vast local and international expertise in tunnelling and the delivery of major infrastructure in urban areas, with sustainable design, opportunities for local employment and a socially inclusive procurement strategy to deliver this world-class project in partnership with Transport for NSW.  

Construction is scheduled to commence on the TSE Works in the coming weeks, with the contract expected to be completed in 2021.
